Anyone familiar with Golden Boy can always expect solid drum and bass, ethereal cyber tech vibes, breakbeats, hip-hop, anime, and plenty more skillfully selected genre-jumping samples from video games and online lore on top of lots of hard jungle and gabber. Several of Golden Boy’s previous releases, including 2019’s “Phantasy 999,” are available on Norm Corps, also based in Portland. Their 6 track EP released in early 2020 on KOF Records entitled Prince of the Cyber Rave is described as “Music for dancing fast and feeling tough” and that holds true for most of their releases, if it weren’t for their thoughtful use of trance and breakcore to lighten the mood.
